Candelilla wax - usefulness in cosmetics

Candelilla wax is a rather hard and brittle wax of yellow color practically insoluble in water, but well soluble in organic solvents and oils. It is extracted from the leaves of Euphorbia, a candelilla shrub, and the stems of the plant are used to make the ingredient. The component is widely used in water-repellent creams, provides shine to lip balms, and is also used in products that require good glide.

Characteristics of the component and specifics of use

Dosage:

• standard - 0.5-10%.
• in creams - up to 5%.
• in lip balms and lipsticks - up to 10%.

To dissolve the wax, it is added to the oil and heated on a water bath together with the fatty phase of the cream until melted. The wax solidification temperature is 65-75 C, so make sure that your fatty phase does not cool down, otherwise it will start to thicken.

Storage: in a cool, dry place, protected from light.

Cosmetic properties of candelilla wax

Candelilla wax has a higher melting point than beeswax and is more resistant to heat. Like all waxes, candelilla wax forms a thin film on the skin, preventing dehydration and protecting it from wind and weather. It is used in creams as a thickening and moisture retaining component. Applications

Wax has some antibacterial action, relieves inflammation, including effective in acne. It has a vasoconstrictive effect and is effective in such skin disorders as atopic dermatitis, atopic eczema, herpes (colds on the lips), shingles, allergic reactions to poisonous plants, psoriasis, dandruff. Like other waxes, it forms a thin film on the surface of the skin, protecting the skin from unfavorable weather conditions.

In decorative cosmetics, wax gives plasticity and mattness to the means of decorative cosmetics, is included in lip balms, shadows.
