CERAMIDE 3 in skin and hair cosmetics
Ceramide III (Ceramide 3, Ceramide 3) is an effective component for the care of dry and sensitive skin, helping to restore the barrier function of the skin. CERAMIDE III EP MB is a blend of ceramide 3 with cetearyl alcohol, which provides an easier-to-use way to apply this component.

Characteristics of the ingredient and specifics of use
INCI: Cetearyl Alcohol, Ceramide NP
Active ingredient content: about 15%
Dosage: 0.3 - 3%
Solubility: in oil
Usage: Ceramide III EP MB should be added to the oil phase of the emulsion and heated up to 75 °C. It is very important that the ceramide is completely dissolved in the oil until transparent.
Certification: Cosmos, Natrue
Storage: in a dry, dark place in a tightly closed container.
Ceramides in cosmetics: benefits for the skin
Ceramide III supports the renewal of the skin's natural protective layer and forms an effective barrier against moisture loss. This molecule, which is identical to human skin, is therefore particularly suitable for long-term protection and repair support for sensitive and dry skin.
Ceramide III consists of a phytosphingosine main chain acylated with a saturated fatty acid (stearic acid). Ceramides are produced using a proprietary biofermentation process. Unlike the various pseudoceramides available on the market, ceramides produced by this process have the same stereochemical configuration as the ceramides present in human skin. This unique configuration is considered crucial for optimal performance.
Performance
In vivo
Dry Skin Improvement Study. Two formulations containing ceramide III (0.05% and 0.5%) and a carrier formulation were applied to the forearms of 20 volunteers twice daily for seven consecutive days. One area was left untreated. Measurements were taken before application and during the application period on days 1, 3, and 7. After discontinuation of application (day 7), measurements were continued on days 8, 10 and 13. The skin's ability to retain water was determined by measuring skin hydration using a corneometer.
During the period of Ceramide III application, there was a statistically significant increase in the skin's water retention capacity compared to the control. A dose-response effect was observed with 0.05% and 0.5% pure ceramide III (i.e., approximately 0.3% to 3% CERAMIDE III EP MB). After cessation of application, a rapid decrease in hydration was observed in areas treated with the carrier composition. In contrast, areas treated with Ceramide III showed a significant more prolonged hydration, up to 6 days after the last application (day 13) using 0.5% Ceramide III (Figure 2).

Regeneration study
In the second study, the skin of 15 volunteers was pretreated with a 5% SDS (sodium dodecyl sulphate) solution for two hours. A carrier composition and two compositions containing 0.2% and 0.5% ceramide III (this is approximately 1.3% to 3% CERAMIDE III EP MB) were applied twice daily for 14 consecutive days. One area was left untreated. Measurements were taken after skin damage/before application (baseline) and during the application period on days 3, 7, and 14. The skin's ability to retain water was determined by measuring skin hydration using a corneometer. While untreated skin areas recovered slowly after SDS treatment, formulations containing ceramide III promoted rapid improvement in skin hydration (Figure 3).
