Cetyl palmitate as a plant analogue of spermaceti in cosmetics

Cetyl palmitate is created from the plant raw material, palm oil, and consists of a complex ester of cetyl alcohol and palmitic acid. It also contains free alcohols: cetyl alcohol, octadecyl alcohol and eicosyl alcohol. By its properties it is an analogue of animal spermaceti, which is found in the fat of sperm whale and is listed as a valuable cosmetic raw material. To date, the animal one is practically not used in cosmetology, it is popular vegetable, as it is more stable in emulsions.

Dosage (percentage of input into cosmetics):2-15%

• creams for mature skin -2-8%;
• care for dry areas of the body (feet, elbows) -5-10%;
• cosmetics after sunbathing -3-7%;
• protective creams and lotions for dry skin -5-12%;
• therapeutic products -10-15%.

Solubility: in oils at 60°C

Use: add to the fatty phase of the cream or mix with other fat-soluble components and melt in a water bath.

Storage: in a dark, dry and cool place.

Benefits of emollient in formulas

The composition of spermaceti is close to skin fat, thanks to which it perfectly nourishes, moisturises and regenerates the skin. This active is suitable for all skin types, especially for dry and irritated skin, for skin with signs of ageing as a rejuvenating component, after sunbathing and burns as a bactericidal, softening and healing agent. Excellent care for rough skin on elbows, knees, feet, makes them softer and smoother. Care massage tiles with vegetable spermaceti do a good job with this.

On the basis of cetyl palmitate, kold creams are made - winter creams for protection against wind and products for people suffering from dermatitis. It is also used in hair and scalp care cosmetics.
