Cationic Emulsifier Stearamidopropyl Dimethylamine
Cationic Emulsifier Conditioner Emulsifier, which is the substance Stearamidopropyl Dimethylamine, is a co-emulsifier and an excellent conditioning agent for hair. As part of cosmetic products, its affinity with hair keratin is increased and this helps to smooth the hair and reduce static charge. Thus, this emulsifier can be used with other emulsifiers (BTMS, cetyl alcohol) to create "creamy" conditioners or conditioners as well as hair masks. If this emulsifier is not available on the market, you can pay attention to the following conditioning analogues: Amidet APA-22, Genamin BTMS.
Characteristics of the component and features of use
INCI: Stearamidopropyl Dimethylamine
Origin: vegetable origin (obtained by transformation of palm oil)
Type: O/W, cationic emulsifier
Dosage (percentage of input into cosmetics): 1 - 4%. We indicate recommended input dosages, however, the optimal dosage for your formulation should be chosen independently depending on the complete composition of the cosmetic product, as well as on the presence of other active ingredients in the formulation:
- liquid conditioner-sprays 0.5-1%
- non-washable conditioners 1-2%
- in washable conditioners and conditioners up to 3%
- in hair masks up to 4%
- in 2-in-1 shampoos up to 1%
Solubility: in water Usage: melting point of the emulsifier 70 - 75 °C. Overheating is not recommended. For the preparation of conditioners, the emulsifier should be combined with lactic or citric acid. Read more about how to do this below in the description. To create thick emulsions it is recommended to combine with cetearyl alcohol or Lanette O. The recommended pH of the finished product with this emulsifier is 4.5 - 5.5.
Storage: It is recommended to store in a cool, dark and dry place, protected from direct sunlight and overheating.
Use of conditioning emulsifier in hair cosmetics
Conditioning emulsifier is used in hair care products: shampoos, conditioners, balms and masks. It can be used as a single emulsifier for the preparation of light emulsions and as a co-emulsifier for the preparation of more viscous and dense formulations (e.g. thick hair masks). As a co-emulsifier it combines perfectly with BTMS and cetyl alcohol. It is this tandem that allows for a dense emulsion.
For example, you can combine 1.5% CONDITIONER EMULSIFIER and 6% cetearyl alcohol to get a light smoothing hair conditioner.
The conditioning properties of this emulsifier provide excellent hair care, prevent hair tangling, relieve static when combing, leave hair silky, smooth and lush.
Conditioning emulsifier is an excellent replacement for silicones in hair products. This emulsifier has a positive charge, so it helps to neutralise the negative charge of aggressive surfactants without weighing the hair down. To activate the conditioning properties of this emulsifier to its full potential in hair care products, the formula is "acidified". To neutralise 1 g of emulsifier you can use:
- lactic acid 88% - 0.27 g
- citric acid 100% - 0.17 g.
Some descriptions of conditioning emulsifier suggest using it in skin products. This is a controversial point, as the conditioning emulsifier is cationic. Indeed, there are commercial products that use cationic emulsifiers for more than just hair, as they improve the tactile feel of creams, make the skin velvety to the touch and give it a matte finish. However, studies have shown that cationic emulsifiers, including conditioning emulsifier, can irritate the skin over time and cause allergic reactions, redness and flaking. Cationic emulsifiers can alter the density of the skin by embedding themselves in the lipid barrier and compromising the integrity of the stratum corneum. Therefore, any conditioning products with cationic emulsifiers: balms, conditioners and masks are recommended to be applied only on the hair length, 1 cm away from the scalp.
Conditioning emulsifier reacts badly to overheating. Therefore, emulsify immediately as soon as the flakes are melted, the temperature of the mixture should not rise above 70-75 degrees. Peculiarity: in the presence of anionic components, such as some surfactants, can stratify the emulsion. Therefore, carefully make recipes for shampoo-balm shampoos 2 in 1, so that as a result you get a quality product.
