Crodasone Cystine Smoothing and Repairing Hair Copolymer

Crodasone Cystine from the French manufacturer is a highly specialized copolymer of cystine and silicone. It crosslinks when dried, thereby forming a protective film. Its functionality is enhanced when activated by heat, which makes Crodasone Cystine a common component of heat protection products. It has been proven to prevent and repair damage to the hair cuticle, has conditioning properties, has shown excellent curl retention properties and generally enhances hair shine. Crodasone Cystine is suitable for use in all hair care products, including curling agents and mascara.

Component characteristics and application features

INCI: Cystine Bis-PG- Propyl Silanetriol (and) Water

Appearance: yellow-amber solution

Component pH: approximately 9.5

Preservatives: 0.8% Phenonip 0.4% Phenoxyethanol

Dosage (recommended addition to finished products): 0.5 - 5%

Solubility: in water at a temperature not exceeding 40°C, or other options:

  • water/ethanol 75%:25% - soluble
  • water/ethanol 50%:50% - soluble
  • water/ethanol 25%:75% - insoluble
  • ethanol - insoluble.

Application features: the component is a yellow-amber solution with a pH of approximately 9.5. When diluted with water to a dosage of 2% or less, the pH of the solution is 5. Crodasone Cystine is soluble over a wide pH range in surfactant systems and thioglycollate. Crodasone Cystine exhibits limited compatibility with cationic surfactants due to its polyanionic nature.

Storage: Long-term storage is recommended in a dark place at temperatures up to 25 °C, protected from direct sunlight. Temporary transportation at other temperatures is permitted.

Origin of cystine and silanetriol, effect on hair

Cystine is a sulfur-containing amino acid that is part of keratin, the main protein of hair (~18%). It plays a key role in the formation of disulfide bonds, which provide elasticity and strength to hair.
Silanetriol is an organic silicon-based component used in the cosmetic industry for its protective and strengthening properties.

Problems with a lack of cystine in hair

Visually, this is manifested by increased fragility and split ends, dullness, loss of elasticity and shine. The hair becomes more susceptible to damage.

Reasons for cystine leaching:

  • Frequent use of aggressive shampoos and chemicals.
  • Thermal exposure (hair dryers, curling irons, straighteners).
  • Lack of protein and sulfur-containing amino acids in the diet - especially common among vegans.

Amino acid reconstructor for hair

The combination of cystine (about a third of the total mass of the copolymer) with silicone made it possible to create an innovative molecule that can significantly improve the condition and appearance of hair without weighing it down. Numerous laboratory studies confirm that Cystine Bis-PG-Propyl Silanetriol penetrates the hair cuticle, strengthening the keratin structure. During the drying process, the active compound forms an invisible but strong protective shell that reduces breakage and prevents further damage.

It has been proven that regular use of products with Crodasone Cystine increases hair resistance, moreover, the molecular bonds formed by this compound increase the shine and smoothness of the hair, creating the effect of salon care.

What Crodasone Cystine does to hair:

  • Penetrating the cuticle and covalently binding to keratin, it restores interprotein bonds, i.e. reconstructs the hair structure at the cellular level.
  • Polymerizing during drying, it forms a strong protective barrier on the hair surface, preventing moisture loss, breakage and damage. Active properties become more pronounced when exposed to heat.
  • Increases hair resistance to external influences, including thermal styling, perm/straightening and ultraviolet light.
  • It exhibits strong conditioning properties, enhancing the shine and smoothness of hair.
  • It exhibits an antistatic effect, preventing hair from “fluffing up”.
  • Synergetic action with other components – enhances the effects of vitamins, amino acids, etc. in cosmetic products. For maximum effect and increased tensile strength of hair, it is recommended to combine Cystine Bis-PG-Propyl Silanetriol with hydrolysates.

Efficiency and features of use

Laboratory tests reproducing the loads that occur with frequent combing have revealed that natural hair damage manifests itself in kinks, thinning and peeling of the cuticle.

It has been experimentally proven that only 3% Crodasone Cystine in a cosmetic product demonstrated a significant reduction in the level of damage to the hair cuticle.

This component is ideal for natural cosmetics, as it does not weigh down the hair and maintains its natural volume. The optimal concentration of Cystine Bis-PG-Propyl Silanetriol in formulas varies from 0.5% to 1.5%, depending on the type of cosmetic product.

Crodasone Cystine has found wide application in professional and everyday hair care products, including:

  • Shampoos and conditioners - promotes deep restoration, makes hair more elastic and resilient.
  • Leave-in serums and sprays: promotes long-lasting hydration and prevents tangling.
  • Styling products - ensures styling durability, preventing damage caused by thermal exposure.
  • Products for coloring, perming and straightening: minimizes damage and helps restore hair structure.

Global manufacturers have already included this component in their hair care formulas

Such well-known brands as Oribe, Quai, Nioxine, Virtue and others have included Cystine Bis-PG- Propyl Silanetriol in entire hair care lines. You can find this component in shampoos, conditioners, hair masks and many leave-in products.

Ecological impact and biodegradation

  • Cystine is a natural compound that is easily degraded in nature without harming the environment.
  • Silanetriol, being an organosilicon compound, has good biodegradability in natural conditions.
