Conditioning emulsifier for easy hair formulation

Cationic DANOX HC-30 is a ready-to-use conditioning emulsifier based on a synergistic combination of cationic surfactants and fatty alcohol, which enables a one-step formulation process. Danox emulsifying mixture is a solid product that easily achieves excellent hair conditioning results while demonstrating an outstanding ecotoxicological profile. It is biodegradable and non-toxic to aquatic organisms.

Component characteristics and features of use

INCI: Behenamidopropyl Dimethylamine, Dipalmitoylethyl, Hydroxyethylmonium Methosulfate, Cetyl Alcohol, Stearyl Alcohol and Lactic Acid

Appearance: lozenges from white to light yellow

Cationic component: 30-34%

Fatty alcohols: 66-70%

Dosage (percentage of introduction into cosmetics): 2.5-12%. In solid hair conditioners, introduction is allowed up to 70%. We indicate the recommended dosages for introduction, however, the optimal dosage for your recipe should be selected independently depending on the full composition of the cosmetic product, as well as on the presence of other active components in the recipes:

  • conditioning serums 2.5-3.5%
  • standard hair conditioners 4-8%
  • restorative hair conditioners 6-8%
  • hair masks 10-12%
  • solid hair conditioners 60-70%.

Solubility: in water

Use: the melting point of the emulsifier is 65-75 °C. It is recommended to introduce Danox HC-30 into a hot (65-75 °C) aqueous phase, and dissolve with periodic stirring for about 30 minutes. The recommended pH level of the finished product on the emulsifier Danox HC-30 is 3.0 - 4.5.

Storage: It is recommended to store in a dark, dry, cool place, protect from direct sunlight and overheating.

How to create an emulsion with the emulsifier DANOX HC-30

According to the original recommendation of the manufacturer of the hair emulsifier DANOX HC-30, it is recommended to add it to the hot aqueous phase, and then add the fatty phase to the aqueous phase. However, there are other ways of working with the emulsifier and the final viscosity of the finished emulsion depends on this. In the presented graph, you can see the dependence of the viscosity on the selected preparation method (A, B or C).

Where exactly method C, in which 50% of the aqueous phase was added after the main emulsification process, shows greater density. In addition, viscosity can be increased not only by changing the process, but also by the concentration of DANOX HC-30.

DANOX HC-30 allows you to achieve a higher viscosity than when using traditional cationic surfactants. In a basic hair conditioner with the same active content, the viscosity obtained with DANOX HC-30 is much higher than that obtained with BTAC or CTAC. In addition, the viscosity of the DANOX HC-30 formulation is much more stable over time.

New trends in creating hair care formulas

Focusing on the latest market trends, DANOX HC-30 not only makes it very easy to create excellent hair conditioners, but also to follow the latest market requirements such as the production of hair sprays, deep-moisture masks and cleansing conditioners.

Cleansing conditioners are the new products between washing and conditioning: they wash while preserving the hair's natural oils, thereby protecting it from external damage such as sun, heat styling, bleaching or straightening (formula on the left - Cleansing conditioner). You can also create unique formulations with the necessary rheological requirements for uniform spraying on the hair. These are like conditioning sprays (the formula on the right is Leane on hair spray conditioner).

Also, the new emulsifier DANOX HC-30 shows improved stability of formulations with silicones in the composition. The comparison was made with the cationic ingredients CTAC (Cetrimonium Chloride) and BTAC (Behentrimonium Chloride). The emulsifier manufacturer also shares the simplest recipe for a moisturizing hair mask with a small number of components and silicone in the composition.

Efficiency of use

The results obtained for the basic composition of the hair conditioner: 4.5% DANOX® HC-30 or 1.5% cationic surfactant + 3% fatty alcohol.

DANOX HC-30 delivers superior detangling results comparable to Behentrimonium Chloride (BTAC) and better than shorter alkyl chain cationic surfactants such as Cetrimonium Chloride (CTAC).

DANOX HC-30 significantly reduces combing force, making combing easier for all hair types. Evaluation on various hair types shows competitive combing force reduction compared to CTAC.

When using DANOX HC-30 in hair conditioner formulations, frizz can be easily controlled as it achieves a higher reduction in electrostatic charge compared to BTAC and CTAC.

Key benefits of cationic surfactants

  • ready-to-use emulsifying hair conditioning system that does not require separate thickening
  • plant-based and environmentally friendly
  • two-in-one product
  • ready to use and easy to handle.
