Plant surfactant - Decyl glucoside for shampoo
Natural surfactant Decyl glucoside is of plant origin and has high foaming properties. Also known as Mousse de Sucre. This surfactant is perfect for bath foams, face wash foams, and for increasing the foaming properties of mixtures of other surfactants. It is well tolerated by all skin types, including sensitive skin, so it can be used in children's cosmetic products. It has EcoCert certification.
Component characteristics and features of use
INCI: Decyl glucoside
Appearance: viscous liquid.
Origin: plant, obtained from coconut oil, palm kernel oil, glucose.
pH (20% in 15% Isopropanol): 11.5-12.5
Type: non-ionic surfactant.
Main substance: 51-55%
Dosage: 2 to 50% (depending on the presence of other surfactants in the recipe). If decyl glucoside is used as a secondary surfactant, the following dosages should be followed:
- shampoo 5-7%;
- shower gel - 4-5%;
- bath foam - up to 10%.
Special features of use: add to the aqueous phase with gentle stirring. When adding more than 10% of this surfactant to the recipe, at the end of preparation it is necessary to check the pH of the finished product and, if necessary, lower the pH to the required level using lactic or citric acid. Provides a good thickening effect together with Xanthan gum.
Storage: at a temperature of 10-25 C. During storage, the product may separate. This does not affect the quality of the component and it should be stirred until smooth before use.
Use of Decyl glucoside in cosmetics: benefits and harms
Decyl glucoside, or many also know it under the name Mousse de Sucre, is a soft non-ionic surfactant consisting of sugars (glucose) obtained from corn starch and fatty acids (decanol - decyl alcohol) of coconut. As previously mentioned, this surfactant is used to produce all types of cleansing and washing products for any skin type, including sensitive, atopic and baby skin. A feature of this surfactant is its effective and positive effect on hair. An additive to a shampoo recipe helps to significantly improve the structure of the hair. That is why many manufacturers in Ukraine prefer to use it in baby shampoos, as well as in cosmetics for thin, depleted hair.
Advantages of using decyl glucoside in cosmetics
- a mild auxiliary surfactant that does not irritate the skin - one of the safest
- compatible with all types of surfactants (surfactants), can be used as the main surfactant;
- foam stabilizer;
- has weak degreasing, but good softening properties;
- increases the conditioning effect of cationic surfactants;
- has an eco-certificate and is recommended for use in natural and organic cosmetics.
