EDTA B - chelator, stabiliser for cosmetics and soaps The Beurre shop offers a cosmetic grade of the well-known chelator and stabilising agent EDTA B. Often on the market the same component can be found under the name Trilon B, this version of the chelating agent is more applicable for the production of household chemicals. Tetrasodium EDTA is used as a preserving and stabilising additive in soaps and cosmetics and is able to bind metal ions, soften water by binding calcium and magnesium salts, improve the properties of foaming detergents, prevent oxidation of oils, colour change of pigments in cosmetics and preserve fragrances of fragrances much longer.

Applications in various fields In cosmetics It is mainly used in flushable products, it is allowed to add a small percentage to creams. Very small dosages are used to stabilise the cosmetic product. EDTA B is added to the aqueous phase, and it safely withstands heating in the aqueous phase: Creams and other non-washable cosmetics - 0.01 - 0.2 % Shampoo, shower gel, foam for washing - 0.1 % Creams and shaving gels 0.05 - 0.2 %. In laundry products EDTA B can be used for machine washing Calgon place, 1 teaspoon of EDTA will prevent limescale formation on washing machine parts. It is also a frequent component in laundry conditioner recipes, in such a formula it can be added up to 4% of the component. However, keep in mind that this active raises the overall acidity of the formula. In soaps from base or from scratch In soaps from scratch EDTA B fulfils a number of functions: it improves lathering increases the shelf life of the soap, as it prevents oxidation of oils makes the fragrance of fragrances and essential oils included in the soap more stable preserves the stability of pigments and colourants in soaps from scratch. It is usually sufficient to add 0.1 % of the component to the soap. This active is added to water before diluting lye in it. EDTA B: harm or safety The safety of this component is somewhat controversial. However, to date, it has been proven that EDTA is dangerous only when inhaled, as it can cause damage to mucous membranes. In some cases, allergies may occur. Nevertheless, it is approved for use in the USA and Europe, even in the food industry. The only thing that is certain about this component is its low biodegradability.

Recipe for laundry conditioner with Trilon B Of course, you can buy an ordinary conditioner for laundry, but then you will not know how much better is the one prepared with your own hands.

To prepare a natural conditioner for laundry you will need a minimum set of components:

emulsifier Dehyquart - 2% Trilon B 0.5% citric acid 1% fragrance or essential oil 1% preservative Nipaguard - 1% water up to 94.5% For preparation follow these instructions. Dilute Trilon B, citric acid in water, add Dehyquart, place in a water bath until Dehyquart is melted and then emulsify with a mixer or blender. Cool, add fragrance or essential oil, mix again. Use as a regular commercial laundry conditioner.
