Octyldodecanol in cosmetics - a medium spreading emollient

Octyldodecanol, under the trade name Eutanol G, is a mild emollient with medium spreading, which is used in a wide range of cosmetics due to its excellent skin conditioning and softening properties, as well as its ability to stabilize cosmetics. Octyldodecanol is often used as a solvent for lipophilic components, as well as UV filters. It is thermally stable and can be used in a wide pH range.

Component characteristics and application features

INCI: Octyldodecanol.

Origin: from 100% renewable raw materials, chemically processed using catalysts or reaction aids.

Flow rate: 600 mm2/10 min

Dosage (percentage of introduction into cosmetics): up to 10%.

Solubility: in oil.

Usage: add to the fatty phase of the cream or mix with other fat-soluble components. Heating is allowed.

Storage: in a cool, dry place at temperatures up to 30°C.

Cosmetic properties of the emollient in recipes

Octyldodecanol has a conditioning and softening effect on the skin, and can enhance the moisturizing effect. When creating an emulsion, Octyldodecanol acts as a stabilizing component that helps bind oily substances. Resistant to hydrolysis at extreme pH values, it is an alternative to castor oil in lipstick and other colored cosmetics

Eutanol G is used as a foam suppressor, that is, if you do not want the toner or lotion to foam when shaken, this component was created for you.

The emollient is considered safe, certified by Ecocert/Cosmos and practically does not cause allergic reactions. It is used in:

• decorative cosmetics
• in care creams, emulsions and lotions
• in sunscreen cosmetics
• in hair products due to its conditioning properties
• as a solvent for dry UV filters
• used for all skin and hair types, as well as in cosmetics for lips and nails.

This emollient is an excellent solvent for amino acid thickeners of EB-21 and GP-1 oils. With this premix, you can create transparent lipsticks, solid SPF sticks or viscous massage gels.
