Wheat protein hydrolysate in cosmetics

Wheat protein hydrolysate has a remarkable conditioning effect on hair and skin. As a moisture-retaining component, it makes hair soft, reduces electrostatic charge, prevents dryness, brittleness and sectioning. Wheat hydrolysate from the German company BASF, presented for sale in the store Beurre, has a high concentration of the main substance and medium molecular weight.

Main substance content: at least 40% (see quality certificate for details). Contains the preservative Na-Benzoate + Phenoxyethanol.

pH of the component: within the range of 4.0 - 5.0.

Dosage (percentage of input into cosmetics): 0,5 - 2,5%.

Solubility: in water at temperatures up to 40 C.

Storage: in a dark, dry place at a temperature of 10 - 40 C.

Cosmetic properties and use

Hydrolyzed wheat proteins have a remarkable conditioning effect on hair and skin and are characterized by good substantivity. The active is perfectly soluble in water in any quantity, as well as in infusion-alcohol solutions. In addition, it should be noted that hydrolyzed wheat creates a strong protective film on the skin and hair, which makes it possible to reduce the aggressive effect of the components in personal care products (such as shampoos, bath foams, facial cleansers). This is especially important for sensitive skin.

Wheat hydrolysate is mainly used in the following products:

• for cleansing in shampoos
• for protection and treatment (conditioners, creams and lotions for dry hair, etc.)
• shower gels
• bath foams
• washing products.

As a moisture-retaining ingredient, wheat hydrolysate makes hair soft, reduces electrostatic charge, prevents dryness, breakage and sectioning. The medium molecular weight (2,500 - 5,000 dalton, this figure refers only to our type of wheat hydrolysate) does not make them aggravating, hence no build-up. The hair becomes soft and shiny.

Wheat hydrolysate can also be used as an active ingredient with moisturizing and emollient action, as well as having a conditioning effect in skin care products, being a real alternative to collagen. We suggest using the active in concentrations from 0.5 to 2.5%, depending on the desired effect or the properties of the specific product to be obtained.

Wheat proteins can also be used in detergents for hand washing (e.g. softening agents, wool and fine fabric treatments).

Tolerability

Like all substances from the class of hydrolyzed proteins, wheat hydrolysate is considered a product with low toxicity. It has absolutely no irritating or sensitizing effect in contact with skin and eye mucosa (especially when used in recommended doses). Thus wheat hydrolysate can be defined as a non-hazardous, highly reliable product for cosmetic use.
