Cosmetic properties
The unique peculiarity of jojoba granules as an abrasive component is that in addition to cleansing action, the granules made of natural wax simultaneously form the thinnest wax layer that nourishes and protects the renewed skin. The correct, spherical shape of the granules excludes microtraumas of the skin in the process of cleansing, allows to achieve extremely soft, not traumatizing the skin, but at the same time effective abrasive action. Jojoba granules are practically odorless, stable to oxidation and do not require additional sterilization.
The granules have a high melting point (about 70 C), which allows them to retain their original appearance and not melt in the finished cosmetics. This is exactly how sugar, salt or other water-soluble abrasive particles can behave.
As a scrubbing element, jojoba microgranules are somewhat similar to polyethylene microgranules. However, jojoba microgranules not only cleanse the skin as a scrub, but also soften and nourish the skin, are all-natural and biodegradable.
Comparison with other exfoliants
Jojoba granules, crushed apricot kernels and polyethylene spheres were taken for comparison. Tests showed that jojoba granules have excellent cleansing power, leaving the skin soft and virtually no discomfort compared to other types of abrasives.
| Abrasives | Abrasive index | Discomfort index |
| Jojoba granules | 3,3 | 0,8 |
| Crushed apricot kernels | 3,7 | 2,5 |
| Polyethylene spheres | 3,7 | 1,8 |
As can be seen from the table, the feeling of comfort is maximized when using a scrub with jojoba granules. While the ground seeds cause slight irritation and damage to the skin. This fact should be kept in mind when you are preparing a scrub for delicate facial skin.
Application in natural cosmetics

Examples of recipes with jojoba granules
As we have already mentioned, jojoba granules have found a wide range of applications in soap making. A wide range of colors in combination with the full naturalness of the product gives room for the imagination of soapmakers, and the high melting point ensures the stability and effectiveness of abrasive properties in cosmetic and water procedures with increased temperature.
To make scrub soap you will need
- Crystal Suspending soap base 100 g.
- water-soluble avocado oil1 tsp.
- jojoba granules 5 g.
- fragrance, essential oil or blend to your taste from 3 to 15 drops depending on the desired saturation of the aroma.
Preparation: cut the soap base into cubes and melt in the microwave (or in a water bath), add the oil and jojoba granules and stir. Last of all, add the fragrance, stir again and carefully pour into the soap mold.
To prepare the cream scrub you need to buy
- organic cream base 50 g.
- jojoba granules 3-5 g.
- lavender essential oil 2-3 drops.
Preparation: the base for the cream heated on a water bath until warm, stir into it essential oil and the desired amount of jojoba granules and pour into a sterile jar for the cream. Use no more than 2 times a week. Cream scrubs with jojoba micro granules combines the softness of a cream with the effectiveness of a scrub to deeply cleanse the skin. Unlike hard scrubbing materials like ground seeds, jojoba micro granules produce a very delicate, micro-injury-free cleansing, softening and gently removing exfoliated cells while softening and nourishing it with jojoba wax.
