Origin of the component and method of production
Konjac Mannan is a polysaccharide obtained from the tubers of Amorphophallus Konjac. This plant belongs to the Araceae family, which grows in Southeast Africa and Asia. In China, this plant is known as "Ju Ruo" and in Japan it is known as "Konyaku".
In China, Konjac has been known for over 2,000 years as a medicinal plant and vegetable. In Japan, it has been considered a foodstuff for over 1500 years. Nowadays cultivation and processing of Konjac is carried out with the use of modern technologies and it is used in many spheres of life: in food industry, in medicine, chemistry and naturally in cosmetology.
Konjac Mannan plant powder is a pure natural water-soluble thickener produced from plants. During the production process, the tubers are crushed and filtered of mechanical impurities. The powder is then washed, precipitated again with alcohol and by extraction the result is a ready-to-use Konjac Mannan powder that can be combined with other hydrocolloid thickeners such as starches, xanthan gum and carrageenan.
Properties of using konjac mannan in skin and hair recipes
KONJAC MANNAN 1.0 SP is a clear gel that gives a very soft and pleasant feeling on the skin. It has such excellent moisturising properties that its action is often compared to hyaluronic acid. Konjac Mannan forms a matrix on the surface of the skin to further retain moisture and improve skin regeneration processes. You can use it to prepare an inexpensive moisturising serum and apply it under your daily cream. In this case, you will be able to increase the overall level of skin hydration and get a softening effect, because konjac mannan creates a thin film that has an occlusive effect, retains moisture in the skin and enriches it with valuable fatty acids and lipids.
Konjac Mannan naturally stimulates the skin's collagen and elastin production, resulting in a firming and toning effect and a velvety feel to the skin. Konjac Mannan improves intercellular metabolism in tissues, which contributes to faster recovery of muscle tissue and promotes faster epithelialisation and restoration of skin structure.
