Origin of cosmetic beeswax
Beeswax is a product of bees, a complex organic compound. Beeswax is secreted by special glands of honeybees, from which bees build honeycombs. It is a multi-component solid substance of pale yellow to yellow-brown color with a characteristic honey smell. Beeswax from the manufacturer Natura Tec has been treated using a non-chemical bleaching process to achieve a light white color.
Chemical Composition
The main constituents of beeswax are esters of saturated fatty acids (palmitic, cerotic, myristic, etc.) and high molecular weight monoatomic alcohols. Saturated hydrocarbons (gentriacontane, nonacosane), free fatty acids (melissinic, montannic, neocerotic, etc.), higher alcohols, lactones, carotenoids, vitamin A, antibiotics, coloring and bactericidal substances, and many other minor components are also present. The quantitative composition of beeswax depends on the source of its production.
Useful properties of beeswax in cosmetics
Beeswax gives mixtures softening and anti-inflammatory properties, it is very slowly absorbed by the skin without clogging pores. Wax ointments improve the condition of the skin, promote faster healing of its damage, which is due to the presence of vitamin A and some other biologically active substances in the wax. Due to the presence of vitamin A in wax, necessary for the normal development of cells and skin epithelium, as well as in connection with the softening and anti-inflammatory properties of wax, it is used in the treatment of diseases of the skin, mucous membranes (eg, inflammatory processes in the mouth), to cleanse the mouth, strengthen the gums and for healing wounds.
In detergents wax reduces the aggressive effects of surfactants, in the composition of shampoos and hair conditioners increases hair nutrition, makes hair more manageable.
Specific uses
Beeswax is used as a structure-forming, heat-resistant and softening ingredient in emulsion creams of various types, lipsticks, eye shadows, mascaras, blushes, depilatories, children's cosmetic products.
Wax is widely used in cosmetology as a component of nourishing, cleansing, whitening creams and face masks, as its composition is similar to a number of components that make up the skin fat and contributes to the formation of a waxy film on the surface of the skin, preventing its dehydration. Thus, beeswax helps to moisturize the skin and restore its elasticity.
Due to its visco-elastic structure, beeswax is also a preferred ingredient for decorative formulations. It improves structure, oil retention, hardness, adhesion and mold separation. It also helps in improving the staying power and shine of lipstick and lip balm.
