Apple stem cells in cosmetics
PhytoCellTec Malus Domestica cosmetics are a special component that protects dermal stem cells and prevents signs of ageing. The cellular substance is introduced in strict dosage into anti-ageing cosmetics: gels, serums, creams and other products to enhance the anti-ageing effect. The PhytoCellTec component is a new discovery of Swiss scientists, called "Elixir of Youth". The product is made on the basis of stem cells taken from the valuable variety of apples Uttwiler Spätlauber.

Cosmetic features of the product
The rare variety of Swiss apples mentioned above has been cultivated in the country since the 18th century. The main distinguishing feature of the variety is the presence of stem cells-"long-livers", thanks to which apples remain tasty, juicy and fragrant even during prolonged storage (up to 4 months).
Biologists have long ago found out that stem cells are an indispensable basis, the "building material" of the human body. They are actively involved in the regenerative processes of damaged areas, quickly multiply and independently regenerate certain skin functions. The main feature of stem cells - they do not have a narrow "spectrum of action" - they are transformed into any cells, regenerating and transforming their structure. Thanks to this, healthy, undamaged organs are created. Chemists and biologists have been studying stem cells for decades, but so far they are most widely used in cosmetology as a means capable of significantly slowing down aging and enhancing regenerative functions of the organism.
The first thing scientists in Switzerland conducted a study, the main purpose of which was to find out how apple stem cells affect human cells. As a result of the experiment it became clear that cells of the valuable apple variety in a dosage of 0.1% increase the proliferation of human stem cells by 80%. At the end of the study, scientists conducted a new test: the effect of the drug on skin folds. Twenty volunteers aged 37-64 agreed to participate in the experiment. Twice a day for 28 days they applied PhytoCellTe Malus Domestica in a dosage of 2% to their skin. The result was an 8% reduction in wrinkle depth after two weeks of use. After one month of use, wrinkle depth was reduced by 15%.
According to Swissinfo statistics, the innovative "elixir of youth" from scientists has been purchased by more than 100 cosmetic brands, including the popular companies Lancôme and Chantecaille.
Using apple stem cells to prevent hair ageing
PhytoCellTec Malus Domestica has the unique property of slowing down general hair ageing, which in turn reduces the risk of increased hair loss and decreased overall hair density. Hair follicle stem cells have a limited lifespan and can only undergo a limited number of cell divisions. Internal or external stressors can affect their functionality. Therefore, as we age, hair stem cells are less active and their number decreases. The depletion of hair follicle stem cells leads to reduced regeneration potential and ultimately to hair ageing and hair loss (i.e. there is a decrease in hair density).
The human hair follicle contains stem cells located in two main areas, also called stem cell niches: < in the bulge area located in the outer root sheath (ORS) of the hair follicle (continues the epidermal basal layer, which also contains stem cells)
- -< differentiate into hair matrix cells -< hair growth at the base of the hair follicle in the region of the dermal papilla
- -< hair growth cycle initiators ensure hair regeneration.
The regeneration of hair follicles depends on the interaction between these different stem cell populations.
Hair follicles are constantly undergoing cyclical growth and regression throughout their life and this process is usually divided into 3 phases:
- Anagen (growth phase): lasts 3-5 years. Stem cells located in the OPC in the bulge area migrate to the hair follicle to form new cells and rapid cell multiplication occurs.
- Catagen (involution phase): lasts a couple of weeks. Cell proliferation and differentiation stop and cell apoptosis begins.
- Telogen (resting period): lasts up to 4 months. After that, the hair falls out and new anagen hair grows in its wake.
This cyclic activity is largely dependent on stem cells, which supply cells for the hair matrix through cell division and specialisation (differentiation) of hair regeneration.

Studies were conducted in which 18 volunteers (20-63 years old) with hair loss (>100 hairs/day) applied hair lotion with 2% PhytoCellTecTM Malus Domestica and 0.1% caffeine. Application once daily for 2 months. Hair loss (collection and counting of hair loss, visible effects of treatment documented with photos). As you can see, the effectiveness of hair reduction was 34% after just after 1 month of use.

Useful properties of apple stem cells in hair care products: Rejuvenates hair follicles;
- Slows down hair aging
- Stops hair loss and stimulates hair growth;
- Revitalises hair stem cells;
- Visibly improves hair density and density

Properties of PhytoCellTe Malus Domestica
The importance and significance of stem cells in the body cannot be overemphasised. Therefore, the effect of a product based on them on the skin is almost invaluable. When used regularly for a month, the PhytoCellTeK component has this effect:
- Protects the stem cells of the epidermis, thanks to which the aging process is slowed down.

- Preserves skin youthfulness, even skin colour, maintains functionality and vitality. Smoothes creases, prevents the appearance of new wrinkles.
- Increases the strength, elasticity and firmness of the dermis. Narrows enlarged pores, brightens colour.

- Moisturises the upper layers of the epidermis by activating the moisturising features of the dermis.

- Regenerates weakened, aged and UV damaged skin.
- Renews the skin by enhancing softness and velvety feel. Cosmetic companies have started to produce elite creams, gels and emulsions containing PhytoCellTec Malus Domestica.
Exosomes in Apple Stem Cells PHYTOCELLTEC MALUS DOMESTICA
What are exosomes? They are 30–200 nm vesicles released by eukaryotic cells. They are capable of carrying "messages" to other cells in the form of lipids, RNA, proteins, and metabolites. Exosomes are an important component of cellular communication systems. For example, exosomes released by one cell are ingested by the recipient cell (endocytic uptake), initiating a response in that cell.
Plant-derived exosomes have demonstrated anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and wound-healing potential in humans. Recent studies have confirmed the anti-aging potential of plant-based exosomes for skin, as contained in PhytoCellTec™ Malus Domestica. The sample selected for the study was a culture of apple stem cells (Malus domestica, Uttwiler Spätlauber).
Parameters:
- Exosome vesicle size (Zeta Sizer Nano ZS from Malvern Panalytical)
- Images (transmission electron microscopy using the freeze-fracture method).
As a result, it was found that PhytoCellTec Malus Domestica naturally contains exosomes derived from apple stem cells. The exosomes are approximately 200 nm in size. Images confirmed the presence and size of these exosomes, which are encapsulated in a bilayer membrane.
