Plantapon PSC surfactant will simplify the creation of cleaning products at home
Plantapon PSC from the leading German manufacturer BASF is an economical "green" surfactant composition, which is a ready-made mixture of non-ionic and anionic surfactants with excellent foaming properties, which greatly simplifies the production of detergents such as shampoos, shower gels, face wash foams, etc. Usually, to create the right formula, it is necessary to combine three groups of surfactants: anionic, amphoteric and non-ionic. Plantapon allows you to save money and add only amphoteric surfactant.
Product characteristics
INCI: Coco-Glucoside, Disodium Laurylsulfosuccinate, Glycerin

Use of Plantapon PSC surfactant in cosmetics
Plantapon PSC is a surfactant that can be used alone. But to improve its cleansing and foaming properties, we recommend using Plantapon in combination with other surfactants, especially Cocamidopropyl Betaine and Lamesoft, which will give you an inexpensive, excellent foaming and natural SLES-free skin and hair care product.
Composition of the surfactant mixture
To obtain good washing, foaming and cleansing properties of the finished product, it is necessary to combine different groups of surfactants in one recipe. And here the manufacturer has made our task easier and combined two groups of surfactants in one component: anionic (deep skin cleansing) and non-ionic (soft delicate care). To be more precise, in the composition of Plantapon you can find:
- Coco- glucoside is a non-ionic surfactant produced from natural components (palm kernel or coconut oil and grape sugar) with excellent dermatological characteristics. A very delicate surfactant, reduces the aggressiveness of anionic tensoactive components. Completely natural, biodegradable.
- Disodium laureth sulfosuccinate - despite the fact that the name sounds similar to lauryl sulfate, they are completely different. Simply put, sulfosuccinate does not contain sulfates, it is not sulfated during the production process. Succinate is a salt of succinic acid, not sulfuric acid. The sulfate ion of sulfuric acid in sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) in succinate is replaced by a softer and more stable sulfoether ion. Structurally, sulfosuccinate is a much larger molecule than other surfactants, so it can hardly penetrate the skin. According to its properties, it is absolutely non-toxic even in high concentrations. It is part of delicate and baby shampoos, intimate hygiene products. According to Contact Dermatitis magazine, this ingredient is 5 times more delicate and effective than SLS.
The main advantages that encourage you to buy Plantapon PSC
- mild surfactant
- EO and SLES-free, for "green" formulas
- for "sulfate-free" formulas
- economical
- easy to use
- improved foaming
- does not contain preservatives
- excellent thickening with Lamesoft in combination with Cocamidopropyl Betain.
In order to help you develop formulas based on Plantapon, we have made a selection based on recommendations and studies from the manufacturer. Thus, the viscosity of the finished product can be affected by both the acidity level (pH) and the presence of certain surfactants in the recipe.
The dependence of the viscosity of the finished product with Plantapon on other components
The first of the studies shows how the addition of Lamesoft surfactant can affect the thickness of your product. With the standard formula of Plantapon 16.7% and Cocamidopropyl Betaine 45% - 20.3%, the viscosity can be varied by adding Lamesoft surfactant. Below is a graph showing the viscosity level (in mPa, s) depending on the % of Lamesoft added.
The second factor determining the viscosity of the finished product is the acidity level (pH). As you can see from the graph, the higher the pH of the finished product, the lower the viscosity. Based on this, we can conclude that the best viscosity of the mixture of Plantapon, K-betaine 45% and Lamesoft can be shown at a pH of the product from 4.5 to 5.5.
