Ready-made surfactant composition for making sulfate-free cosmetics

Many of you, having started to create cleansing cosmetics with your own hands, are faced with the question "why should I add different types of surfactants to the recipe?" The answer is simple - the correct combination of surfactants from different groups (anionic, amphoteric, non-ionic) allows you to get abundant stable foam with good cleansing properties. The German eco-certified surfactant mixture called Plantapon SF will facilitate the creation of recipes and the preparation of cosmetics to the level of "just add water", because the Plantapon mixture already consists of correctly selected surfactants of different groups.

Component characteristics and features of use

INCI: Sodium Cocoamphoacetate, Glycerin, Lauryl Glucoside, Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate, Sodium Lauryl Glucose Carboxylate

Type: mixture of amphoteric, nonionic and anionic surfactants

Main substance: 30%

Dosage: 1 - 50%

Features of use: mix with water and/or active phase and bring to homogeneity. Good viscosity is achieved when combined with Lamesoft PO65 and the pH of the finished formula within 4.5 - 5.5. Based on personal observations, the viscosity of the finished product is higher if you acidify the aqueous phase (pH 3.0 - 4.0) and then mix it with the surfactant, than adjust the pH at the end, lowering it to 4.5 - 5.5.

Storage: in a dry, dark place in a tightly closed package at room temperature. Keep away from direct sunlight.

Cosmetic use of Plantapon SF plant raw materials

The mixed surfactant Plantapon SF is based on two anionic surfactants (less than 5% sodium lauryl glucose carboxylate and less than 5% sodium cocoyl glutamate), an amphoteric surfactant (sodium cocoamphoacetate 10-20%) and a non-ionic surfactant (5-10% lauryl glucoside). Also added to the composition is moisturizing, reducing irritation and stabilizing foam glycerin. Some of the ingredients are of plant origin and are based on palm kernel, coconut and corn oils, as well as other plant components. Plantapon SF has received Ecocert and Cosmos certification and serves as a basis for creating organic cosmetics.

The undiluted mixture itself has a pH of 6.6 to 7.5 and a light, unobtrusive aroma, which allows you to exclude fragrances or flavors from recipes if you do not want to add synthetic components to cleansing cosmetics. Plantapon SF allows you to create exceptionally soft and skin-friendly finished products, gives good foam and cleansing properties, does not dry out or irritate the skin.

For what formulas can you buy the Plantapon SF surfactant mixture

First of all, to create natural, environmentally friendly and simple cosmetics, which can be divided into:

  • hair shampoos
  • washing products
  • shower gels
  • liquid soap
  • children's cleansers and shampoos.

Benefits of using the product

  • does not contain sulfates
  • allows you to prepare soft and natural formulas of cleansers for the face, body and hair
  • economical
  • does not require heating, allows you to create cosmetics using the cold method
  • produces excellent foam quality.

How to make formulas with Plantapon SF

First of all, I would like to note the ease of use of this component. The standard dosages for various products vary within the following limits:

  • shampoos and shower gels for adults: 20-50%
  • shampoos and shower gels for children: 20-30%
  • cleansing foam, gel and milk for washing: 7-10%
  • micellar water: 1-5% depending on the type - "rinse off" or "leave on".

To prepare a natural shampoo, you need to prepare an aqueous phase with the desired active ingredients for hair, mix it with a mixture of surfactants, preserve and adjust the pH.

Plantapon SF can be used as the main surfactant, but when mixed with water, it does not provide the desired viscosity of the finished product. To increase the thickness, it is recommended to include a plant surfactant and an additional superfatting additive Lamesoft PO65 in the amount of 1-3%. To do this, carefully add Lamesoft and mix it with Plantapon SF. Then add the aqueous/active phase in portions and mix carefully so as not to form excess foam.

When working with this surfactant, it is also important to understand that the acidity level of the finished product has a strong effect on viscosity. Therefore, by lowering the pH to 4.5 - 5.5, you will be able to thicken the shampoo or gel. You can adjust the pH with a 50% solution of citric or lactic acid.

Also, to improve the thickness of the product, you can gel the aqueous phase using xanthan gum, hydroxyethyl cellulose, silk guar or other thickeners.
