Natural preservative for soaps and cosmetics

The Italian company has developed a synergistic product, ‘preservative without preservative’, where the active ingredients are pre-dissolved in a surfactant of natural origin (PEG-free) and allow to preserve the shelf life of the cosmetic product from at least 6 months. However, it differs from typical preservatives on the cosmetic market and is a slightly different ingredient. It is on the synergy of all the components, each of which is not an independent preservative, that the action of this unique development is based. Prezervasol does not need additional co-preservatives and is effective in the mono version.

It does not irritate the skin, has a gentle effect, is recommended for use in children's cosmetics (including for babies), does not contain PEG, parabens and irritating alcohols, is non-toxic, has its own pronounced aroma, which can be transferred to the finished product.

Characteristics of the component and specifics of use

INCI: Aqua, Glycerin, Phenethyl, Caprylyl/Capryl Glucoside, Undecylenoyl glycine, Levulinic acid, Sodium levulinate, Sodium Hydroxide.

Dosage: 1 - 3%, preferably pre-dissolved in water.

Appearance: liquid

Use: It is desirable that the pH of the finished product, to which you add Prezervasol, should be within the range of 5.5 - 7.5. In acidic and highly alkaline environments, the preservative loses its effectiveness. It is also allowed to be added to a warm emulsion with further thorough stirring.

Caution: may slightly liquefy emulsions.

Storage: it is recommended to store in a dark cool place, protect from direct sunlight. It crystallises in the cold, so it is necessary to take the preservative out of the refrigerator before use.

What does it consist of?

Over the years and up to now, the development of the ‘preservative without preservative’ system has become a more common and important development in the field of cosmetology. Preservasol consists of the following components, which in synergy with each other ensure that handmade cosmetics are preserved for a long time. Let's take a closer look:

  • Glycerin is an organic compound, the simplest representative of triatomic alcohols. It is responsible for moisturising the skin and has a protective function, as it retains moisture in the cells.
  • phenithyl alcohol - an organic compound found in essential oils, particularly in geranium. This substance has pronounced antimicrobial properties and is used as a bactericidal agent, which is effective at different pH values.
  • capryl glucoside is a very mild non-ionogenic surfactant. A lipophilic substance that can be used as a solubiliser. It is very well tolerated by the skin, belongs to the green actives and can be used even in children's cosmetics. In addition, it has antiseptic action
  • undecylenoyl glycine - a derivative of the amino acid glycine, which has a mild antibacterial effect. This substance blocks the reproduction of microorganisms when the skin comes into contact with the external environment. It is a strong preservative agent, but does not irritate the skin and does not cause an allergic reaction. It is often used in children's cosmetics
  • levulinic acid is essentially an extract from wild yam extract, which has strong antibacterial properties. This plant preservative is not inferior in action to synthetic ones. It does not irritate the skin and does not cause allergic reactions.
  • sodiym levulinate is also a derivative of wild yam, a substance that enhances the activity of levulinic acid and covers a wide pH spectrum.

Effectiveness in cosmetics

With Preservasol preservative you can ensure the preservation of the following types of cosmetics:

  • natural and ‘green’ cosmetics
  • baby cosmetics
  • Acne and acne products
  • cosmetics for oily skin
  • water-based lotions, tonics
  • perfectly compatible with surfactants (the main thing is to observe the necessary pH level of the finished product).

Taking into account the nature of the constituent components of Preservasol preservative system, we can safely state that it is particularly effective in regulating sebum (sebum) production and is effective in products for acne skin, oily hair care and deodorants.

Tests have been performed against the following specific strains

  • Staphylococcus epidermidis is a gram-positive coccus, belongs to the genus Staphylococcus. It is part of the skin flora, but when excessive sebum is produced and pores are clogged, it is the cause of blackheads and acne.
  • Propionibacterium acnes is a species of Gram-positive anaerobic immobile bacteria, the causative agent of human acne (acne), an inflammation of the sebaceous glands.

This preservative is recommended for use in products for problem skin on the face, body and scalp. And when combined with other oily skin care ingredients, you can create effective products to treat skin problems.

Which types of fungi and bacteria can be ‘killed’ with Prezervasol

  • 1.2% Staphylococcus aureus
  • 1.2% Pseudomonons aeruginosa
  • 1.8% Escherichia coli
  • 0.25% Candida albicans
  • 0.1% Aspergillus brasiliensis.

Still thinking of buying this preservative?

The answer is unequivocal - yes, buy it! After all, below we give a huge list of advantages of the cosmetic component in comparison with its synthetic co-brothers preservatives:

  • perfectly soluble in water
  • does not require heating
  • is suitable for creating wet wipes as one component of the formula, as Preservasol contains a moisturising product and a surfactant
  • PEG-free
  • natural origin of components
  • is a seboregulator (in acne, hair products, deodorants).

Of the disadvantages of the preservative should be noted that it has a slight specific odour, but in the finished product, many people do not feel it at all. Its price is a little higher than other preservatives from the Beurre shop, but the price is argued by the naturalness of the composition. More disadvantages we could not find.
