Water-soluble olive oil in cosmetics
Water-soluble olive oil of the Resplanta® series contains a significant amount of oleic, palmitic and linoleic acids. The oil has a good conditioning effect and softening properties. Olive oil VRM retains all the properties of the olive base oil. Water-soluble oils of the Resplanta® series are produced using an exclusive interesterification technology, starting with pure vegetable oil and glycerin compounds.
Component characteristics and application features
INCI: Olive Oil Glycereth-8 Esters
pH of a 5% solution in water: 6.5 - 8.5
Dosage: 1- 15%
Solubility: in water or alcohol. Can serve as a solubilizer for lipophilic components.
Features of use: water-soluble oils of the Resplanta® and Resplanta®PhytoNat series are easily dispersed in water and can produce a transparent solution when using a small amount of surfactant. The level of water solubility and transparency depends on the length of the fatty acids of the original vegetable oil. Resplanta® oils with short, medium and long chains of fatty acids produce a transparent solution at pH> 7, up to 15%. However, if you use VRM as a solubilizer for lipophilic components, you will not be able to obtain a transparent solution, as a result, the mixture of water and VRM + lipophilic active will not be transparent.
Storage: in a dry, dark place in a tightly closed package at a temperature below 25 ° C. Keep away from direct sunlight.
Fatty acid composition of olive oil WSO
- C 16:0 Palmitic - 7-16%
- C 18:0 Stearic - < 5%
- C 18:1 Oleic - 65-85%
- C 18:2 Linoleic - 4-15%
Water-soluble olive oil is rich in medium-chain fatty acids. This type of oil perfectly conditions and softens the skin.
What is Resplanta water-soluble oil
Resplanta are non-ionic amphiphilic compounds with which vegetable oils can be incorporated into an aqueous formulation while maintaining transparency, without making it cloudy or affecting the foam. They also work as co-emulsifiers, and their versatile formulations make them useful in many different and innovative applications. Since the process is not a direct condensation, the original fatty acid composition of the original oil is protected. The precious unsaponifiable fraction, rich in phytosterols, squalene and vitamins, remains unchanged in water-soluble oils.
The starting point of the Italian manufacturer of water-soluble oils is the search for raw materials, which guarantee the high quality of the final product. Glycerin for esterification is supplied exclusively from RSPO-certified factories. And vegetable oils are purchased from local producers whenever possible.
What can be done with water-soluble oil (WSO)
By adding WSO to an aqueous solution, you can obtain micellar water, and with the help of water-soluble oil, you can introduce fat-soluble components into aqueous solutions.
What is a solubilizer and what types of solvents exist, read in the Beurre Blog article "Solubilizers in cosmetics or how to mix oil and water".
Applications of water-soluble oils
- any detergents: soap, shampoos, face washes, shower gels
- creams
- cosmetic milk
- massage mixtures
- tonics
- medicinal ointments
- tanning oils
- oils for children
- soap from a soap base.
If you want to get transparent soap from a soap base, you should not add regular base oil to the recipe. Use a water-soluble form of oil and you will get a crystal clear soap bar. In soap from a base, water-soluble oil performs all the functions of a basic care oil, but does not reduce the foaming properties of the base and does not cloud its transparency. The basic % of WPM input into a soap base is up to 5% (i.e. 1 teaspoon per 100 g of base), but it is allowed to add up to 15%.
