 BC20 Natural Bamboo Functional Filler

The components of the Sensocel® range are ultra-fine powders based on a natural pure cellulose polymer obtained in a particularly gentle production process from various plants such as beech, bamboo, wheat and oats. Sensocel BC20 is produced from bamboo and performs a number of useful functions such as reducing the stickiness of emulsions and whitening in sun care products, stabilizing foam in shower and shaving products, preventing powders from sticking in crumbly mineral cosmetics, and improving the sensory properties of emulsions of all kinds.

Ingredient Properties and Description

INCI: Cellulose (Bambusa Arundinacea)

Appearance: Fine powder. Approximate fiber length is 20 microns.

Dosage: 0.5 - 2% (up to 4% in masks and dry shampoos).

Solubility: insoluble in oil and water, only dispersible in base.

Performance characteristics: chemically inert, temperature stable up to 200°C and pH stable.

Certification: Ecocert, Cosmos, Halal, Kosher, Vegan. Readily biodegradable: 70-100% of cellulose particles biodegrade in 1-2 months in fresh water at 20°C.

Shelf life: 5 years in a dark, dry place at room temperature.

Use in various types of cosmetics: emulsions, detergents and hair products

Use of Bamboo Silica for Skin

Functional fillers in skin products (creams, lotions) can cover many tasks. For example, the addition of up to 2% Sensocel BC20 in an emulsion can reduce the stickiness and greasiness of the cream, which immediately improves its sensory properties upon application. It does not have much effect on the overall viscosity of the emulsion, but it does improve its absorbency and spreadability on the skin. This is especially important when working with reverse emulsions, as Sensocel BC20 allows you to turn a heavy w/o emulsion into a lighter formula. And as a big bonus, Sensocel BC20 has a soft-focus effect that visually enhances the appearance of the skin. Bamboo Silica is used in products such as;

• Emulsions, lotions, creams, ointments,
• gels, serums,
• Baby care (diapers, baby powders),
• Sunscreens (reducing stickiness, improving spreadability, reducing bleaching effect, increasing absorbency),
• Make-up remover : Sensocel BC20 helps to give a soft and matt finish after the use of cosmetics,
• a remedy for malfunctions in finished formulations (helps to "reassemble" the emulsion).

Use in cleaning products

Due to their excellent absorption properties, Sensocel® powders are often used in detergents and cleaning products, both to stabilize the foam and increase its volume, as well as to give it additional adsorption properties: shampoos, shower gels, dry shampoos or baby products.

For example, Sensocel BC20 is recommended for aerosol dry shampoos because of its fine particle size. For powder shampoos, Sensocel BC30 is recommended in combination with other ingredients. Efficacy tests have been conducted at 3% dosage of the Sensocel® range of powders. 

In addition, this inconspicuous powder is able to stabilize the foam in detergents and shaving products. Below is an example of a stable and dense shaving foam after the addition of Sensocel® powders, and our bamboo silica is also effective for such a task.
