Snail extract Poly-hexylan and its benefits in cosmetics
Water-soluble snail extract Poly-hexylan is a powerful active ingredient, natural and ecological, secreted by snails, which moisturises and protects the skin from negative external influences. The main properties of snail mucin are: regeneration and rejuvenation of the skin, as well as healing and rapid repair of micro-damage, all this is complemented by a skin smoothing effect.
Characteristics of the component and specifics of use
INCI: Snail secretion filtrate
Dosage: 2-5 %
Solubility: in water at temperatures up to 40 °C
Use: when creating emulsions, add to the active phase and add to the emulsion at temperatures below 40 °C. When making tonics, serums and other products that do not require heating, add to the aqueous phase of the recipe.
Storage: Long-term storage is recommended in a dark place at a temperature not exceeding 4-8 °C, protected from direct sunlight. Temporary transport at a different temperature is permitted.
Snail mucin and its uses
Poly-hexylan is a natural, natural ingredient extracted from the protective fluid secreted by the snail Helix Aspersa as its protective, regenerating shell. This secret protects the snail from various infections, scratches and deeper damage, sunlight, and protects it from drying out. This secretion also allows the snail's body to contract and unclench regularly, keeping it elastic. Snail extract is a complete and balanced component for skin care, which perfectly regenerates and moisturises the skin and promotes fast skin regeneration. The process of snail mucus extraction is made by a special method, thanks to which the snail secretes it for some time. The snails themselves are not affected.
The composition of snail mucus in the component Poly-hexylan
- allantoin, which stimulates skin regeneration, healing, relieves irritation, has a smoothing effect;
- proteins provide the necessary nutrition of the skin, giving it softness, smoothness;
- collagen and elastin restore the skin and stimulate the reproduction of new cells, reduces the depth of wrinkles, scars, stretch marks
- vitamins A, C and E stimulate collagen synthesis and skin renewal, have an antioxidant effect;
- glycolic acid acts as an exfoliant - stimulates cell activity, moisturises the stratum corneum, improving the condition of dry skin; regulates the water content of the epidermis, increasing smoothness and softness; increases the synthesis of skin matrix compounds and collagen in the dermis. It helps to even out skin tone, reduces pigmentation;
- mucopolysaccharides provide hydration and protect the skin from external aggressive factors; the use of proteolytic enzymes in the treatment of various diseases is called systemic enzyme therapy. Enzymes catalyse the hydrolysis of proteins, peptides, amides and esters of basic amino acids. Mucopolysaccharides help in protease/anti-protease balance, have anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antibacterial effects; rejuvenating and normalising effects on the skin. In the effect on blood vessels - improve microcirculation; breakdown of fibrin and fibrinogen, platelet aggregations; breakdown of deposits on the walls of blood vessels.
Why snail mucus is so effective
The structural matrix and components of snail skin (collagen and elastin are similar to human skin, but the immune system of the snail was formed many thousands of years ago and its immune response to various influences is different from human. The snail's body does not react to skin damage and microbial attack with internal inflammation, but moisturises the skin with mucus, which contains antimicrobial peptides, antioxidants and copper peptides that cause an orderly regeneration of skin cells. Snail mucin also has the ability to stimulate the activity of fibroblasts (cells responsible for the formation of extracellular macrix, collagen and elastin). With age and under the influence of solar radiation, the activity and number of fibroblasts decreases, the dermis loses its structural integrity and visible signs of ageing are visible loss of elasticity, skin laxity, wrinkles, enlarged pores. Snail secretion filtrate stimulates the formation of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid and reduces the activity of free radicals. It is clinically proven that the use of products with snail slime significantly improves the appearance, smoothness and elasticity of the skin, and reduces the total number of wrinkles by 29% and the depth of wrinkles by 16%. That is why snail mucus is simultaneously effective in treating both deep skin problems associated with photo-aging and age-related changes, and superficial problems associated with acne, rosacea, bacteria, viruses and other aggressive external factors.
Range of cosmetic products with snail secretion
Given the ability of snail mucus filtrate to accelerate the regeneration of epidermal cells, it is often added to cosmetic products to address a wide variety of skin problems.
- Anti-ageing: One of the main actions of snail slime is anti-ageing, so it is often added to creams for skin after the age of 35, and combined with other active anti-ageing ingredients such as copper tripeptide, EGF and other peptides. Anti-aging creams with snail secret smooth wrinkles, restore skin elasticity and tone, improve its structure, eliminate the effects of photo-aging, tighten enlarged age-related pores. Products with snail slime have a good effect on the skin around the eyes, smoothing expression lines and making thin skin more elastic and dense.
- Healing and anti-inflammatory products: For oily and combination skin, lighter products with a minimal oily phase or those with a gel texture are good for oily and combination skin. They help the skin to heal quickly, smooth fine scars and scarring after acne, block the growth of pathogenic bacteria, reduce inflammation and revitalise the skin.
- Moisturisers: Despite the hyaluronic acid, snail slime filtrate is not moisturising enough on its own, but combines well with other moisturising ingredients such as aloe extract.
- Hand creams: Snail slime in hand creams perfectly smoothes wrinkles, prevents the formation of age pigmentation, improves skin density, accelerates the healing of various cracks and other microtraumas, improves skin defence against viruses and bacteria.
Poly-hexylan snail extract is widely used in the manufacture of the following products
- anti-ageing facial cosmetics
- sunscreens, after-sun products
- anti-burn
- shaving products, aftershave/depilation products
- cosmetics for pregnant women's
- skin care (prevention and treatment of stretch marks, tightening)
- cosmetics for dry, thin, allergenic
- skin baby cosmetics
- teenage cosmetics (acne), antibacterial products
- anti-inflammatory agents
- compositions healing wounds, cracks, scars, scars.
Many cosmetic firms have opened a series of care cosmetics with snail extract. The most popular cosmetic firm that uses this extract is the Korean company MIZON.
