Cosmetic sodium alginate as a natural thickener
Sodium alginate is a natural rheology modifier that improves the sensory characteristics of cosmetics. The product is made on the basis of algae, enhances pleasant sensory sensations. It creates a feeling of intense hydration on the skin, after which the skin looks smoother, more radiant and soft, like a baby's. When added to hair cosmetics, sodium alginate makes hair manageable and flexible, improves its elasticity.
Characteristics of the component and specifics of use
INCI: Algin
СAS: 9005-38-3
pH of 1% solution at 20 °C: 6.0 - 8.0
Viscosity of a 1% solution at 20 °C: 1015 mPa.s
Dosage: 0.2 - 1% in cosmetics and up to 5% in alginate masks.
Features of use: add to water and stir until a homogeneous gel is formed. Adding sodium alginate powder to warm water accelerates the gelation process. To obtain high-viscosity gels, it is recommended to combine with Rheocare XGN xanthan gum. Preliminary dispersion of sodium alginate in glycerin or glycols accelerates the formation of a homogeneous gel.
Storage: in a dry, dark place in a tightly closed container at temperatures below 30 °C. Keep out of direct sunlight.
Use of sodium alginate in cosmetics
Sodium alginate has stabilising and moisturising properties. Dissolution in water in certain concentrations leads to the formation of a gel, which helps to make the skin softer, smoother, saturated with moisture. It is used in the manufacture of cosmetics, providing a soft and silky feel when used. Provides gentle care for hair, preserving its elasticity while making it pliable and manageable (in styling products).
