Gentle amino acid surfactant from oats - delicate care for skin and hair
Gentle surfactant obtained by acylation of oat amino acids is a foaming anionic surfactant, several times less aggressive compared to conventional anionic surfactants. It is of completely plant origin, highly biodegradable and safe for the environment.
Component characteristics and features of use
INCI: Sodium Lauroyl Oat Aminoacids
Type: anionic surfactant
Main substance: 28-32%
pH: 6.5 - 7.5
Dosage: 1 - 20%
Features of use: soluble in water. As a main surfactant, it is used in an amount of 10 - 20%. In shampoos, it is recommended to use it together with conditioning additives. As a co-surfactant - 5%. In cleansers - up to 10%. In eye make-up removers - up to 5%.
Storage: in a dry, dark place in tightly closed packaging at room temperature. Keep away from direct sunlight.
Proteol OAT in natural cosmetics
Proteol OAT is an anionic surfactant obtained from oat amino acids, ideal for cleansers with soft foam. It has very good tolerance by the eyes and skin, does not destroy the natural skin barrier, creates a thick, abundant and soft foam, does not harm the environment.
Proteol surfactant forms a rich, thick and ultra-soft creamy foam for gentle cleansing of the skin and hair. It is an excellent foaming agent in difficult conditions (hard water, heavily contaminated hair). Even when used as a co-surfactant in difficult conditions, it retains its excellent foaming properties. As demonstrated by microscopic observation, the density of the foam is explained by the special dense structure of the bubbles. And this dense foam has very good stability over time, which, for example, allows using Oatmeal surfactant to create lush bath foam.
Sensory analysis
Conducted by washing the hands of 10 volunteers, the sensory analysis showed:
- softness of the foam both during use (the volunteers assessed the foam as pleasant to the touch) and after use (the softening of the skin after washing was assessed);
- abundance of foam (the parameters were tested using a standardized measurement method);
- foam density (the foam was assessed as very dense and, therefore, showing good stability: during work, it "sat" perfectly in the palm of the hand, which made it easier to use the foaming properties of the product).
The abundance of Oatmeal surfactant foam, shown by sensory tests, was confirmed by measurements of foaming intensity using Ross-Miles tests. This foaming power is significant when Proteol OAT is used as the primary surfactant, as well as when used in combination as a secondary surfactant: Proteol OAT has been shown to improve foam stability and resilience in conventional formulas.
Gentleness for Eyes and Skin
Proteol OAT’s gentleness translates into its gentleness to the skin and mucous membranes of the eyes. In addition to its good tolerability, Oatmeal Surfactant does not disrupt the skin’s barrier function, making it an ultra-gentle foaming agent that can be used in all gentle cleansing formulas. As shown by oxyhemoglobin denaturation tests (RBCA), this surfactant does not alter the structure of the protein-rich stratum corneum, and maintains the complete integrity of the skin barrier. This suggests that Oatmeal Surfactant is not a disruptive surfactant, unlike other anionic surfactants.
Proteol OAT shows significantly better ocular tolerance than other commercially available surfactants. In contrast, even at a concentration of 0.5%, Proteol OAT does not irritate the mucous membrane of the eye.
Main cosmetic properties
- creates abundant foam
- provides gentle cleansing without disturbing the natural skin barrier
- does not dry out or irritate the skin
- environmentally safe.
Use in ready-made recipes
The combination of soft, abundant foam and gentle cleansing opens up Proteol OAT to a wide range of applications:
- Gentle cleansers: foams and gels for facial cleansing
- Shower gel for normal and sensitive skin
- Gentle shampoo
- Baby shampoo
- Gentle cleansing wipes for removing make-up
- Micellar water
- Oral care products.
Safety for the environment
Fully biodegradable. The biodegradability of Proteol OAT was assessed according to test 301B of the European Directive. Oat surfactant is a biodegradable surfactant that shows 95% biodegradability after 28 days (i.e.> 60%). It is an environmentally friendly, eco-friendly surfactant that helps preserve the environment.
