Vanillyl butyl ether is a component to enhance microcirculation
Vanillyl butyl ether or VBE is a unique ingredient that produces a firm and gentle sensation of warmth on the skin, triggering a cascade of neurosignals that are natural to our body. Vanillyl butyl ether has a warming effect and increases microcirculation, thereby causing active hair growth and fat burning in anti-cellulite products, used in lip volumizing products and in ointments to relieve muscle pain. Increased blood flow enhances the delivery of nutrients to the hair shaft. A small % of the component in creams has a subtle warming effect and provides psychophysical relaxation.
Characteristics of the component and specifics of use
INCI: Vanillyl butyl ether
Dosage (percentage of input into cosmetics): 0,01-0,5 %. Do not use undiluted on the skin.
Solubility: in oil, ethyl alcohol, polysorbate, water-soluble oils, including PEG-40 at temperatures up to 40 °C.
Usage: dissolve in oil and introduce into emulsion/gel at temperatures below 40°C. Direct injection into a warm emulsion without additional dissolution in oil is permitted. When injecting into a cold emulsion or gel, pre-dissolution is required. When working with the component it is necessary to avoid contact with skin and eyes, use protective equipment.
Storage: it is recommended to store in a dark cool place (20-25°C) in a tightly closed container, protect from direct sunlight and overheating. Keep away from metals, they may cause changes in the color and viscosity of the component.
Cosmetic properties of vanillyl butyl ether
Vanillyl butyl ether is an effective warming, microcirculation enhancing product that works much cooler than the well-known red pepper extract. When applying red pepper, the warming effect we get is due to the capsaicin found in peppers. Often pepper can cause not only a warming effect, but also burning, individual reactions of redness and skin irritation. Whereas VBE provides an even warming effect without skin irritation. However, it is best to start using VBE at a dosage of 0.1%, monitor how strongly you feel the warming effect and increase the dosage to 0.5% if necessary.
In cosmetics, it performs the following functions
- Improves microcirculation
- Stops hair loss and thinning
- has a mild warming effect on the skin with a long-lasting effect
- anti-cellulite effect
- Gives volume to the lips
- has an analgesic effect in sports heaters
- Does not irritate the skin
- is a multifunctional ingredient for hair, body and lips.
In which cosmetics the ingredient is used
- Anti-cellulite cosmetics - on average 0.3 - 0.5%.
- Anti-hair loss and hair growth products - 0.2 - 0.5%.
- Balms and lipsticks to increase lip plumpness - 0.1%.
- Warming masks for face and body - 0.3 - 0.5
- Hand and body creams for comfort - 0.1 - 0.3%.
- therapeutic and sports warming ointments/creams/gels
- Warming lubricants - 0.01%.
Attention, the use of the active component is recommended not to start with the maximum allowable dosage. It is better to increase it if necessary. The warming effect depends on individual sensitivity.
From personal experience of using the active ingredient in 0.5% concentration in anti-cellulite gel. The sensation after application - immediately begins warming effect, on different parts of the body is felt differently: on the buttocks and thighs very moderate, while under the buttocks - very hot. In the first few days of use, the warming effect is felt much stronger, and after a few days of regular use, the warming effect is felt moderately. The warming effect is also much stronger if you apply the gel with 0.5% VBE to a hot body, for example after a bath. If you jump into a warm bed immediately after applying the gel, you will feel very warm and sometimes even hot. If you apply the gel, wrap yourself in a foil and jump under a blanket - it will probably be a sauna, but we did not risk such a thing at the concentration of 0.5% active. We do not recommend to apply cosmetics containing VBE after scrubbing procedures or say body peeling with a dry massage brush, in this case after applying the gel you want to say "hot" and wash it off. All of these conclusions have been drawn at the maximum allowable concentration of 0.5% VBE. When developing formulations it is recommended to take into account different skin sensitivities, to work with gloves and not to touch the face/eyes in order to avoid contact with the active substance in concentrated form.
It should also be noted that a low concentration of VBE has a pleasant warming effect, which makes personal care products more comfortable in the cold season.
Experiment on improvement of microcirculation
The participants of the experiment are 21 healthy volunteers without any allergies: 7 women aged 21~30 years, 7 women aged 31~40 years, 7 men aged 31~40 years.
Test conditions: constant temperature (22±1°C) and humidity (40-65%)
Time: 45 minutes
Test site: inner forearm (1.5 x1.5 cm2)
Agent dosage: no treatment, 0%, 0.1%, 0.3%, 0.5%.

A study on the effect of vanillyl butyl ether on hair growth
Clinical study conducted by Spincontrol Laboratory (France). Aim: To evaluate the in vivo efficacy of hair loss serum compared to placebo on heads with alopecia areata. Study Conditions: 11 volunteers (8 males and 3 females) applied serum containing 0.5% VBE for 3 months. Volunteers applied 10 drops of serum to the scalp once daily and massaged for 5-10 minutes without rinsing.

Stimulates hair growth and improves follicle nutrition
Vanillyl butyl ester improves hair growth by influencing IGF-1 secretion by papillary cells. Improves hair growth by stimulating proliferation and differentiation of hair follicles.

Vanillyl butyl ether improves hair growth by influencing the secretion of VEGF by papillary cells. It stimulates vascular endothelial cells to proliferate and grow, resulting in better nourishment of the hair follicle.
