Vitamin D in cosmetics for the radiance and health of your skin and hair
The fermented vitamin D from the Korean manufacturer Labio, Aqua proVita D3, is a precursor of vitamin D3 (7-DHC) encapsulated in cyclodextrins, thanks to which this vitamin dissolves in the aqueous phase and shows very good stability. The component not only replenishes D3 stores in the skin, but also provides a local immunomodulatory effect. It is recommended for the care of sensitive, inflammation-prone and atopic skin.
Characteristics of the component and specifics of use
INCI: Glycerin, Methyl Cyclodextrin, Water, 7-Dehydrocholesterol.
Appearance: yellow transparent liquid
Dosage: 3 - 5%
Solubility: in water at temperature up to 70 °C
Storage: long-term storage is recommended in a dry place at 4~10°C. Protect from direct sunlight. Temporary transportation at different temperature is allowed.
Vitamin D for the body and skin
The value of vitamin D for the body has long been proven: without it, calcium metabolism is impossible, i.e. strong bones and skeleton. Later it became clear that this vitamin is involved in the regulation of many vital processes inside the cells and many people began to take it on a regular basis several times a year.
Normally a person gets vitamin D from food and from the sun through the skin. Through exposure to ultraviolet light, 7-Dehydrocholesterol (7-Dehydrocholesterol or 7-DHC) is transformed in keratinocytes into vitamin D3 and then into Calcitriol (1,25 dihydroxyvitamin D3). Statistically, 50-70% of people are vitamin D deficient.
Vitamin D - beneficial properties for the skin
The effect of vitamin D3 on the skin seems to us not so useful compared to retinoids, vitamin E or C. These vitamins have long been used in cosmetic formulations and promoted by all the marketers of the world. However, do not underestimate vitamin D, which:
- stimulates the production of antibacterial peptides cathelicidins and defensins, which are beneficial for skin with rosacea, atopic dermatitis, psoriasis and other conditions. That is, vitamin D will be a panacea for any type of skin problems

- restores the skin barrier function as it regulates keratinocytes and their differentiation. Vitamin D inhibits the division of damaged cells and promotes the production of Involucrin, a protein very important for the skin's protective function. Cosmetics with vitamin D can restore the destroyed skin barrier in just 1 week of regular use;
- protects against the harmful effects of ultraviolet rays and photoaging of the skin. Vitamin D in sunscreen cosmetics reduces the number of burn cells and reduces the inflammatory process that occurs in burned skin. Vitamin D promotes the synthesis of the protein p53, which regulates the process of programmed cell death

- slows down the overall aging process of the skin.
There have been studies that have shown that the supply of vitamin D in the skin contributes to longer, safer stays in the open sun.
However, that's not all! Vitamin D helps to maintain an optimal amount of calcium ions in the skin, which are needed for the synthesis of involucrin, the protein that forms the horny scales of the skin's protective layer. Calcium ions are also involved in the formation of intercellular skin lipids and the exfoliation of dead cells.
As we age, vitamin D metabolism in the skin slows down and restoring vitamin D stores is now becoming a new cosmetic trend.
Vitamin D for hair
Vitamin D should also be used in cosmetics for hair, especially against hair loss. As this active protects the hair follicle well, reduces its apoptosis (programmed cell death) and improves regrowth of the hair shaft.
Aqua-pro Vita D3 - mechanism of action
The skin contains an inactive form of provitamin D - 7-DHC. When exposed to sunlight, it is converted into vitamin D3. To protect us from overproduction of vitamin D, the skin produces only 15% of the active form of 7-DHC. As we age, the 7-DHC content of the skin decreases and vitamin D deficiency occurs.

It has been proven that application of 7-DHC to the skin activates the mechanism of production of the active form of vitamin D. However, it is a fat-soluble molecule and is technologically difficult to work with.
Korean company LABIO has produced a water-soluble form of D3 by incorporating 7-dehydrocholesterol (7-DHC) into cyclodextrin under the trade name Aqua proVita D3. This component is stable in the aqueous phase at temperatures from 25 to 70 C and is not affected by UV radiation in finished cosmetics.
The main benefits of using vitamin D in cosmetic formulations are as follows
- Protects cells from UV radiation
- Reduces inflammation after sun exposure
- Reduces general skin irritation
- Strengthens and restores the barrier function of the skin
- Activates the skin's natural antibiotics.
Aqua-pro Vita D3 can be used to create
- Sun protection and after-sun care cosmetics
- Anti-aging products
- Creams for problem skin
- Cosmetics for damaged skin
- Care for dry and atopic skin
- Winter care
- Hair loss remedies.
The component is recommended for the care of mature, sensitive skin, as well as skin prone to inflammation, problem skin.
