Crothix Liquid is an easy-to-use viscous liquid that is used as a highly effective thickener for all types of detergents and cleansers: shampoo, shower gel, body wash, liquid soap, etc. Crothix Liquid works well even in cold mixing systems (heated heating systems). Crothix Liquid works well even in cold mixing systems (i.e. without heating) and provides formulators with easy cosmetic preparation. Crothix Liquid does not require neutralization, does not form nitrosamine by-products and provides a conditioning effect in rinse-off products.

Usage details: Crothix Liquid is freely soluble in anionic, nonionic and amphoteric detergent systems, and shows good compatibility with cationic salts. It is tolerant to electrolytes and performs best over a pH range of 5-9. Crothix Liquid should be preheated to 55-60C and then added to the cold surfactant base with mixing. To produce clear products the system should be adjusted to pH 5 or higher.

Storage: in a dry, dark place in a tightly closed container at room temperature. Keep out of direct sunlight.

Effectiveness of application in cleansing cosmetics

Crothix Liquid is a 45% version of dry Crothix in lozenges that has been converted into a more convenient liquid form for thickening different types of surfactants and their mixtures. It not only acts as a thickener for surfactants, but can also serve as a conditioner in rinse-off products as it contains PEG-6 and caprylic/capric glycerides, which have emollient, gelling and counter-irritant effects. Crothix Liquid exhibits high thickening efficiency as well as ease of application. As shown in the graph below, Crothix provides better thickening of finished shampoo than PEG- 120 Methyl Glucose Dioleate, and at a concentration of 1-2% provides significantly higher viscosity than this traditional thickener. These characteristics allow Crothix Liquid to be used at lower dosages than PEG-120 and demonstrate its effectiveness and cost-effectiveness as a thickener.

How to thicken shampoo with Crothix Liquid

Crothix Liquid can be used to thicken products such as:

• shampoos
• shower and bath gels
• liquid soaps
• washing products
• household detergents, etc.

Thickening is accomplished by preheating Krotix to above 50 °C and then adding it to the cold surfactant base while stirring. In most cases, the resulting mixture is transparent provided the pH is 5.0 or higher. However, it is best to test each individual recipe as some systems may become turbid when mixed in this manner. Emulsion-type products such as body washes, conditioners and lotions can be easily prepared by incorporating Crothix Liquid into the oil phase and heating the mixture to above 50 °C before creating an emulsion.
 

Comparison of Crothix Pastilles and Crothix Liquid

As a liquid and simple thickener, Crothix Liquid is economical and effective. However, it contains up to 45% active ingredient in its formulation, so it requires a higher concentration in formulations than Crothix in lozenges.
