Essential oils
What is high quality essential oil and where to buy it
Essential oil is a mixture of odorous substances extracted from plants, fruits, and spices in one of the following ways:
- steam distillation
- cold pressing
- extraction
Essential oils have firmly entered our world and are used in handmade cosmetics, soap making, aromatherapy, for the preparation of perfumes and the treatment of various diseases. At home, you can add essential oil directly to creams, shampoos, or bath products. Fashionable home perfumery (fragrance compositions and candles) is also not complete without essential oils.
When working with essential oils, remember that they are a concentrated product. It cannot be used in its pure form on the skin, except perhaps for essential oils of tea tree, lavender and rose, which are applied precisely to problem areas.
The second feature of this product is volatility. Be prepared when adding essential oils to a cosmetic recipe for fragrance that it will begin to evaporate over time and the smell will be weaker than at the beginning. Therefore, in products where smell is more important than therapeutic properties, replace essential oils with natural blends from the BEURRE store.
Different oils have different effects on our body and skin in general. However, in order for the properties declared by the manufacturer to fully justify themselves, it is necessary to choose a quality product. Often at the pharmacy you can buy inexpensive counterfeits of essential oils that will not exhibit the declared cosmetic properties when used in cosmetics.
What is the price for essential oils?
The price of essential oils directly depends on the raw materials used, the production method and the availability of various certificates. Not all oils have to be expensive, because to make orange oil I use inexpensive peels and get a large amount of oil out of it. But rose oil cannot be cheap, because to get 1 ml. Natural rose oil is processed up to 5 kg of petals.
However, when choosing an oil, be guided by more than just price. Pay attention to the packaging, too, because natural essential oils should be packaged in a dark glass bottle. The label of the oil itself should include information about what raw materials were used in production (often the Latin name) and in which country the oil is produced. Take the time to find information about the full composition of the oil (chromatogram) and its production method, about the presence of certain organic or “Bio” certificates.
