Exfoliants
How do exfoliants affect skin texture?
One of the necessary stages of skin care is exfoliation and renewal of the skin. Scrubs and peelings are created for these purposes. You can also make organic exfoliators at home. For this purpose, you need to buy exfoliants.
Exfoliants (English: “to exfoliate” - remove the top layer, scrape off) are cosmetic ingredients whose purpose is to quickly exfoliate dead skin areas.
Types of exfoliants:
- Mechanical. Ground natural particles of nut and seed shells, as well as synthetic granules or balls. Mechanical synthetic exfoliants do not injure the skin, but cause significant harm to the environment. They do not dissolve and enter rivers and lakes through wastewater, causing the death of fish. That is why it is so important to use natural mechanical exfoliants in organic cosmetics: apricot kernels, almond shells, particles of carnauba wax, oatmeal. You can also buy exfoliants on our website in the form of ready-made mixtures and a liquid or solid base with a mixture of particles of different types and sizes. All you have to do is enrich the product with oils, actives and auxiliary components.
- Chemical exfoliants: AHA acids, salicylic, retinoic, lactic acids, enzyme solutions. They dissolve the upper dead layer of the epidermis. When doing chemical peels yourself, you need to be careful and introduce no more than the stated concentration of acid in the recipe. For alpha acids, the effective input range is: 5-10% at skin pH 3-4, for beta acid - 1-2% at skin pH 3.
Chemical peels are differentiated according to skin type. For example, salicylic acid is a “folk” remedy for problematic and oily skin. Fruit AHA acids are more suitable for dry, normal, dehydrated and pigmentation-prone skin. Products with AHAs help fight photoaging, but exfoliation leaves young skin vulnerable. Therefore, add a protection factor to your care.
The use of exfoliants in cosmetics
The undisputed leaders of products with a targeted exfoliative effect are scrubs and peels. In addition to them, the use of exfoliants is quite widespread:
- Gels for washing. At the same time, washes with AHA can cause eye irritation and will not work after a few minutes of washing. Only mechanical parts.
- Gommage rolls. In addition to acids, “pellets” create a soft massage effect, which has a beneficial effect on tone and lifting.
- Tonics and lotions with salicylic acid are a win-win option, because... When the acid is absorbed into the skin, the best effect is achieved.
Natural products with exfoliants are the foundation of proper anti-age care. The purpose of these products is to prolong the youth of the skin in natural ways, helping it renew itself without the stress of laser and plastic methods.
